Which version of WordPress does the App work with?
The App works with WordPress.com and self-installed WordPress 2.9.2 or higher.

I get an “We could not find the XML-RPC endpoint of your blog” error but I have XML-RPC enabled, what do I do?
1. Ensure that you’ve typed in the URL correctly.
2. If it’s correct, make sure XML-RPC services are enabled on the blog.
3. Verify that xmlrpc.php is functioning properly. Locate your RSD meta tag by viewing-source on your blog. It will look similar to this:
<link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="http://example.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd" />
Next, follow the link, http://example.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd, and make sure it resolved to an XML file. Locate the WordPress API item: http://example.com/xmlrpc.php. And lastly, load that apiLink value into your browser. If everything is setup correctly, you should see this message: “XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.”
4. Go to the W3C Markup Validator and type in the URL of your WordPress site. If you get a response such as “… one or more bytes that I cannot interpret as UTF-8″ that is most likely what is causing the app to have trouble with your site.
5. Try with the default theme and with no active plug-in.
(Trying it with the default theme and plugins disabled will help pin down where the problem is. If everything works then you go back and enable your theme and then try it again. If everything still works then you go back and activate each plugin one at a time until you find the one that is causing the breakage.)
6. Turn on the ‘debug mode’ within the ‘App Settings’ screen, and try to add your blog again. Then check the log file, instructions here.

I get a “Malformed blog response” error message. what do I do?
1. A common issue that can cause errors with the App is invalid characters.  The easiest way to check is to go to the W3C Markup Validator and type in the URL of your WordPress site.  If you get a response such as “… one or more bytes that I cannot interpret as UTF-8″ that is most likely what is causing the app to have trouble with your site.
2. You can also try with the default theme and with no active plug-in.
(Trying it with the default theme and plugins disabled will help pin down where the problem is. If everything works then you go back and enable your theme and then try it again. If everything still works then you go back and activate each plugin one at a time until you find the one that is causing the breakage.)
3. If that doesn’t help, you can turn on the ‘debug mode’ within the ‘App Settings’ screen, and try to refresh your blog again. Then check the log file, instructions here.

I’m receiving the following error: “File system out of resources”. How do I fix that?
Please set the app cache folder to the SD card by following the steps below:
– On your BlackBerry go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications” (on newer devices go to Options->Applications). Scroll through the list, highlight and select “WordPress”. Next, click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”.
– Reboot the phone by removing and reinserting the battery.
– Start the app again
– Click “App Settings”
– Set the “Cache Files Location” option to “SD Card”, then save the changes. (You will need few MB of free space on the SD card).

How do I download the latest version of the app?
The App will periodically check to see if you have the latest version. To check manually, point your browser to http://blackberry.wordpress.org/download/. If we’ve announced a new beta but the download screen shows an old version, try clearing your BlackBerry’s browser cache first.

I click on the WordPress icon and nothing happens, how do I fix that?
This is a permissions problem. On your BlackBerry go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications” (on newer devices go to Options->Applications). Scroll through the list, highlight and select “WordPress for BlackBerry”. Next, click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”.
Once you do this, you must reboot the phone by removing and reinserting the battery.

I downloaded WordPress for BlackBerry via RIM AppWorld and now I can’t find the WordPress for BlackBerry icon anywhere, I have to run it from AppWorld. How do I get it back?
This is a bug in RIM AppWorld. Go to AppWorld and uninstall WordPress for BlackBerry. Then follow the steps below, then re-install WordPress for BlackBerry from AppWorld.
(1) Open App World
(2) Go to My World
(3a) For keyboard-based BB’s — Hold down the ALT key and press “RST”
(3b) For Storm — Hold the num-lock (“!?123″) button so it locks and then hit “34(“
(4) Give it some time, but if your BB locks after issuing the cache clear, perform a battery pull reboot.

7. I’m receiving the following error: “The folder XXXXXX/ is corrupted….” . How do I fix that?
Follow the steps below:
(1) Close the app
(2) Open the Media application on the BlackBerry
(3) Press the Menu button and choose Explore
(4) Navigate to folder //store/home/user/wordpress/ (or to //SDCard/BlackBerry/wordpress/)
(5) Select the folder XXXXXX/
(6) Press the Menu button and choose Delete
(7) Restart the app and add your blog again

I’m receiving the following error: “File System Full Error”. How do I fix that?
This problem can happen if there is not enough free space in the Device Memory for WordPress for BlackBerry to function properly. To fix this, you may need to increase the amount of Device Memory used for file storage.
First, check the available Device Memory by following these steps:
1) Open the Media application on the BlackBerry.
2) Press the Menu button and choose Explore.
3) Highlight Device Memory, then press the Menu button and select Properties.
4) In the dialog that appears, check the percentage of used device memory (under the small pie chart).

If the used device memory is close to 100%, WordPress for BlackBerry may not have enough for its temp files.
You can try increasing the Device Memory Limit to solve this problem:
1) Open the Media application on the BlackBerry.
2) Press the Menu key and choose Options.
3) Select the current Device Memory Limit setting and choose a larger size.
4) Press the Back button and Save the changes.

After increasing the Device Memory Limit, you should see a lower percentage of used memory if you go back to check the Device Memory Properties.

If the Device Memory Limit is already set to the maximum size but you still get the error when trying to use WordPress for BlackBerry, you will need to clear up some memory. You can remove extra languages installed on the device, or move your pictures, music, and/or other files to an external media card. We recommend having at least a couple hundred KB free on the Device Memory. Please visit the following support page on RIM’s website for further information about maximizing free space on your BlackBerry smartphone: How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone.

I get a red triangle with an exclamation point in it beside my blog. What does it mean?
That triangle means that there was an error adding the blog. To fix this issue select the blog and click on the “Refresh” icon.

I can’t access Stats on my WordPress.com site, how do I fix that?
– Start the app.
– Remove the blog within the app by selecting the delete menu item. Phone drafts will be deleted!.
– Tap the add blogs button.
– Select the last option (self hosted blog).
– Insert this URL http://INSERT-THE-NAME-OF-YOUR-BLOG.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php (only one http:// at the beginning, No WWW).
– Insert your credentials and tap ‘Sign In’.

I can’t access the Stats screen on self hosted sites,  how do I fix that?
Ability to show comprehensive site stats for self-hosted sites is available for those sites running the Jetpack plugin.

I’m receiving the following error: “A server communication error occurred”. How do I fix that?
1. On your BlackBerry, go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications”. Scroll through the list and highlight and select “WordPress for BlackBerry”. Next, Click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”.
2. Reboot the phone by removing and reinserting the battery.
3. Start the WordPress app and select the “App Settings” menu item.
3a.If you are an individual user (no BES user), Select Direct WiFi, direct TCP, WAP2 and BIS connection types only. Do not select “enable advanced connection settings”.
3b. If you are an enterprise user, keep selected WiFi and BES.
4. Save the changes and exit the Settings screen.
4. Add your blog again.

My Host Blocks XML-RPC Access! How do I fix that?

  1. Rename your xmlrpc.php file to something different, but only change it after the ‘xmlrpc’. Ex: xmlrpc_wp.php.
  2. Install this plugin.
  3. Read the installation instructions and activate it.
  4. Remove your blog from the app and add it back again.

I receive the following error: “The application WordPress has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy.” How do I fix that?
This issue is related to your phone’s IT policy setting, not to WordPress for BlackBerry app. Make sure that permissions are set correctly. On your BlackBerry, go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications”. Scroll through the list and highlight and select “WordPress for BlackBerry?”. Next, click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”. If you receive same error again, you can try to do the following: Go to Options-> Security options-> Firewall-> Edit default permissions-> expand all options and make them all as Allow. Then go to Options-> Security options-> General setting-> IT policy name-> press the trackball and select Verify Security software. If that doesn’t help and you are on a BES connection, contact your IT department and ask them to allow “Split Pipe Policy”. You may also want to refer to this BlackBerry.com knowledge base artice.

I keep getting asked to trust a server certificate, how do I get around this?
1) When the prompt occurs, click on View Certificate.
2) Confirm the certificate name *.wordpress.com
3) Click OK then choose Trust Certificate.
4) If prompted enter the smartphone keystore password.

Note: If the keystore password has been enabled on the smartphone, trusting the new certificate will require this password. The keystore password could be the same as the smartphone password, but also could be something different.

If this doesn’t help, go to options > security > andvanced security > certificates.
Scroll down till you find “*.worpress.com” and it should have a red X next to it. Highlight and use the BB key to trust it.

I’ve a BlackBerry 8520 and I’m receiving the following error: “File system Error (12)”. How do I fix that?
1) Close the App
2) On your BlackBerry go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications” (on newer devices go to Options->Applications). Scroll through the list, highlight and select “WordPress for BlackBerry”. Next, click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”.
Once you do this, you must reboot the phone by removing and reinserting the battery.
3) From the main BlackBerry screen, select Options -> Media Card. Make sure Media Card Support and Mass Storage Mode Support are both set to On.
4) You can check that your media card is working correctly by going to the Media application. Click the menu button and select Explore. Make sure Media Card is listed there.
5) Start the app again and set the cache files location to SD card. (Click “Setup” when in the WordPress app and set the “Cache Files Location” to SD Card, then save the changes. )

I lose all ‘<‘ and ‘>’ characters. This happens with, and without attaching pictures. How do I fix that?
This is a problem with your server using known broken combinations of PHP and libxml. You need to install the following plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/libxml2-fix/ .

I get an “XML-RPC Service are disabled on your blog”. How I can enable them on my blog
1. Go to your blog and log in (/wp-admin).
2. In the sidebar, open Settings and then select Writing.
3. Under Remote Publishing, check the XML-RPC protocol checkbox.
3. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

i got the app installed and thought it was working fine but my two test posts wont show up on my blog when i open it up on my desktop. they show up on the list of posts on the app

  2. nycphoenix

corrrection from my previous comment: the posts went to my drafts folder what am i doing wrong to get them published?

    1. Danilo

#nycphoenix — just create your new post with status set to “published” and send it to the blog. (menu -> submit).

Note: If you set the status to “draft” and save it, it does not change anything on your actual blog until you hit menu > submit.
This will remove the draft post from your phone drafts folder, place it in your posts folder, and make it available when you log in from the desktop.

  3. peakmoreacademy

i’ve installed the BB app to my BB Tour- and have been trying to just connect to my blog. I keep getting a code 403 error (bad login/pass combination)

I’ve redone it over & over again, and verified, etc. but it keeps coming up as such.

Please tell me there’s something else to do. It really shouldn’t be this difficult. *sigh* thanks!

    1. Danilo

@peakmoreacademy — could you post the url of your blog in the forum, so we can take a look?
One more thing, send us also a few details of your blog, such as:
      * Whether you’re using WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress
      * If self-hosted, the version of WordPress you’re using

I followed the instructions above to load my personal site-hosted WordPress blog. I found out the location of my xmlrpc.php and loaded that. Now I get a “loadBlog error” and don’t know what to do. I checked my code against the validator as suggested and made some corrections. Still not blog loading. Any ideas? My login name has a space between two words and I was thinking that may be the problem, but I can’t change it.

    1. Danilo

@Shawn Pray — I don’t think that the issue is related to your password. Could you post the url of your blog with some details on the forums?
      thanks.

  6. Ross

hi, i can’t seem to upload photos or videos from my blackberry. it times out eventually. what am i doing wrong?

    1. Danilo

@Ross – most probably the issue depends on your carrier settings, and unfortunately there is no real solution for this type of errors. You could try to use other connection types: click setup when in wordpress app and see what is selected.

  7. Ivor

I have installed the app but cannot add my blog. I have tried various things and cannot work out what’s wrong. Any ideas? Here’s the process I go through:

When asked, I enter my URL (wobblyblock.com), username and password. I have tried both with and without the www.).

I am then told that XMLRPC endpoint cannot be found, so I manually enter the location URL of XMLRPC.php (wobblyblock.com/xmlrpc.php). Again, I have tried with and without the www. first.

I am then told ‘a server communication error occurred Malformed blog response’.

I see ‘XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.’ when I view it in my browser.

I have gone through the w3c validation and it is all correct.

    My blog is http://www.wobblyblock.com.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    1. Danilo

@Ivor — your XMLRPC endpoint at http://wobblyblock.com/xmlrpc.php (without www) works fine.
I wonder if this is a network specific issue. have you looked at your connection settings ?
Click “Setup” when in the WordPress app and select Direct TCP, WAP2 and BIS connection types only. (do not select “enable personal setting”).
Then try to add your blog using the URL: http://wobblyblock.com/xmlrpc.php

      1. Ivor

        Dear Danilo,

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately it did not seem to work.

The connection settings appear to make no difference: I get exactly the same problem as before.

It says ‘connection in progress’, asks me to enter the URL for my XMLRPC, says ‘connection in progress’ again before telling me ‘a server communication error occurred Malformed blog response’.

I am using a Blackberry Curve 8900 on Vodafone in the UK.

        1. Danilo

@Ivor — The app displays “malformed blog response” when is able to connect with your blog, but the response from it is corrupted.
To pinpoint the problem we should read the app log file:
Turn on the debug feature (whitin the setup screen) and try to add a blog
          using the full URL http://…../xmlrpc.php
Then, send us the app log file and the device eventlog (instructions here)
I know it’s tedious, but this could help us to solve your issue.
          Thanks.

  8. sondra d

BB tour. Wow a lot of problems with this app. Maybe need to categorize the forum posts.

I worked through most of my connection issues thru trial and error. One large obstacle remains, an obstacle that, if not corrected, makes this app useful for me.

When I attempt to add my blog it gives me an error message : blog already exists with this name.
Of course I know that, it is my blog, one which I named, which is why I’m attempting to add it.

Can you not add an existing blog? Does this app require you to start a new one? I don’t have time or interest in keeping two separate blogs? silly requirement if that is the circumstance here.

    Please provide direction?

    Cheers,

    1. Danilo

@sondra d — you can add any existing WordPress blog to the app.
Probably you have a cache issue. Click “Setup” when in the WordPress app and hit the button “Remove” inside the “Cache Files Options” box.
This will delete all the files that are currently stored in the application cache.
Then close the app and restart it again.

  9. saumyasharma

    Hello,
I have installed the wordpress app on my bold 9700 and everything seemed to be working fine. Until i posted from my blackberry. The post did not show up on my blog when checked from my computer. Is there a time lag? Please help!

    Thanks,
    Saumya

    1. Danilo

@saumyasharma — did you send the post to the blog? (menu -> submit).

If you save the post in your phone, it does not change anything on your actual blog until you hit menu > submit.
This will remove the draft post from your drafts folder, place it in your posts folder, and make it available when you log in from the desktop.

  10. damonlbaker

I tried it on my blackberry bold, when I click it launch it nothing happens, it shows up in my list of running applications but it otherwise shows no sign of life.

    1. Danilo

      @damonlbaker — It sounds weird.
Do a battery pop reboot and then make sure that permissions are set correctly.
(On your BlackBerry, go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications”. Scroll through the list and highlight and select “WordPress for BlackBerry”. Next, click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”.)

If your issue still there, can you post to the forum with some details (app release, BB Os)
      Thanks.

Help! I just loaded the WordPress for Blackberry on my new Tour, and when I go to open it, I get the following error:

“A server communication error occurred. Required radio is not active.”

Please tell me what I can do to correct this. Thank you!

    1. Danilo

@John — have you looked at your connection settings ? Click “Setup” when in the WordPress app and see what’s selected and try tweaking that.
One more thing, make sure that permissions are set correctly. On your BlackBerry, go to “Options > Advanced Options > Applications” or “Options > Applications”. Scroll through the list and highlight and select “WordPress for BlackBerry”. Next, click on the app, and choose Edit Permissions and ensure they are set to “Allow”.

  13. Kelly

I downloaded the app but I get the following error message: “could not find the XMLRPC endpoint of your blog.” I don’t know what this means?? I checked the FAQs but I am not self hosted…I have a free wordpress blog. Please help.

    1. Danilo

@Kelly — Click “Setup” when in the WordPress app and select Direct TCP, WAP2 and BIS connection types only. (do not select “enable personal setting”).
Then trying to add a blog using URL http://myhealthypassion.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php or the url http://wordpress.com

      1. Kelly

That still didn’t work. I checked everything you said and tried adding both blog URL’s…I still get the same error message.

        1. Danilo

@Kelly — ok, so i think you need to enter the correct APN (Access Point Name) settings (Which differ based on your wireless carrier provider).
On most of the devices the APN settings are in Options/Advanced/TCP.
After you have entered the APN setting hit on Save and hard reset the device by removing and reinserting the battery before trying to connect with WordPress for BlackBerry.

  14. Kelly

Okay so how do I know what the correct APN is? When I got into the TCP setting it tells me to enter a APN username and password. I have no idea….sorry!!! Thanks for helping!!

    Ok folks.

Nice to see we have a whole bunch of users using this new WordPress for berry release.

    Now, my problem:
“We are unable to retrive stats data for your site.” <—- word for word, spelling error as well (small thing).

My, wordpress account seems to track both the hosted and self-hosted data, I am not sure if this is causing the issue.

The light of the community is welcome.

  18. Ashish Mohta

I am also getting the Same problem with the Stats thingy. “We are unable to retrive stats data for your site.” Please check the FAQ is what it says and FAQ doesnt have any FAQ on this.

    1. Danilo

@Ashish Mohta — We are working on this right now to weed out the underlying cause. Please bear with us till then.

    2. rztidwell

Just to chime in: I’m waiting for resolution on the self-hosted site stats issue, as well. It will be a nice addition, once it works.

Installed on blackberry curve 8900, still get communication error after setting permissions and deleting wap. You should make old versions easily available as fine with previous version.

  23. Peter

It all works fine on my curve 8520 but how do I insert a link? cant find any commands

    1. Danilo

@Peter — you can add a link typing “http” or “<a" in the body content. The app should show a popup.

  24. CHICKAGO

    Hi!

I’m trying to install on my phone. My site is built through WordPress – http://www.wearechickago.com. It’s installed on my phone fine, but when I go to log in, I get an error that says, ‘Not In Directory’. Is that because I have a site and not a blog? Can I use this to access my word press content management system?

    help!

    1. Danilo

@CHICKAGO — The App works with WordPress.com and self-installed WordPress 2.5.1 or higher, and WordPress MU 2.6 or higher. So you can use the app with your site.
did you try to add your site using the following URL: http://www.wearechickago.com/xmlrpc.php ?

  25. Jeff

I am not able to add my location to my posts because I am getting a message that states that the GPS is timing out. I have tried posting from outside with an unobstructed view. My other GPS assisted apps work without issue on my Storm 9530. If I uncheck add my location it uploads without a problem. Thoughts?

    1. Danilo

@Jeff — did you try to change Location options within the Setup screen?
You should set “Autonomous GPS”, it should work fine on every devices/wireless carriers.

  26. kccause

Thanks, this tip solved my issue as well with the Storm 9530!

  27. kccause

Thanks for the great App! I am having issues uploading media files to the blog. My device, Blackberry Storm 9530 indicates that it is sending, then I receive the message An error occurred, Server returned HTTP response code 500.

Also, when using send location, the location is found but not posted on the blog. Is there a add in that needs to be enabled within WP?

    Thanks again!

    1. Danilo

      @kccause — are you using WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress?
If self hosted you should use the Geolocation plugin that is now available for self-hosted WordPress sites, and can be downloaded at the WordPress.org plugin directory or through your WordPress dashboard: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/geolocation

The other issue, (error 500), is related to the server configuration. Please, post your question to the WordPress.org support forum.

      1. kccause

Thanks, I am self hosting and am giving the plugin a shot now. . .

If not is that option is also comming. If that options comes will the twitter updater also come.

Btw I use FB updater on my blog if I post true web.

    1. Danilo

@KleineSchurk — At this moment there is no plan to support Twitter or FB inside this app.
We are working on some other new features, so stay tuned!

@MossackAnme™ — we start a check on that. thanks for your feedback.

    2. Danilo

@MossackAnme™ – yes, it is a bug of the app that we have just fixed. So, the next app release (1.4) should works fine with signature and MORE tag used together.

      1. MossackAnme™

Ok. Nice to get fast response from you! ^^

I’ll wait for next release! \(^o^)/

    1. Danilo

@Harold — This is a problem with your server using known broken combinations of PHP and libxml. Please, take a look here: http://josephscott.org/code/wordpress/plugin-libxml2-fix/

that did the trick picture work now but now video and audio still stating files error too big is there a setting that i can change

  35. kleineschurk

    Thanks for the fast reply.
I also wanted to know if your going to change the option how a picture gets added to the post. So that you can add the picture on the spot of your own choice? And not only on the top or bottom. Sometimes I like to add a picture after 3 typed lines.

  40. Lesley

I updated to the WordPress for Blackberry 1.4.4 as now it does not work.
Every time I try to look at my stats or refresh or do any other action this always appears:
    Server communications error occured
    Wifi conn: Tunnel Failed
    TCP conn: Tunnel Failed
    BES conn: Invalid url parameter

I followed your instructions by going to Options-Advanced Options-Applications-Wordpress for Blackberry and allowed all the settings.
Yet it still is not working and the message keeps appearing.

    1. Danilo

@Lesley — hard reset the device by removing and reinserting the battery before trying to connect with WordPress for BlackBerry. If this doesn’t help, can you post to the forums so we can take a look?
