Hi everyone ! As Matt mentioned at WordCamp San Francisco 2009, we’ve been working on creating an Open Source WordPress for Blackberry application.
To build this native app, we’ve teamed up with the fine folks at Danais, who lead the MoPress Open Source project.
There are still a few issues to resolve and UI tweaks to implement, but since testing BlackBerry apps is so easy, we wanted to open this up as quickly as possible to anyone who wanted to take this app for a spin.
First, here’s a quick video tour of the app: done
And here’s what you need to know if you want to take the app for a spin:
A few words of caution before you proceed: While we’ve tested this a bunch, this is a beta and there are a ton of hardware/OS combinations out there, so please test with a private blog or a backup blog before using on your high-traffic main blog — or wait for the 1.0 version before using this.
To install the beta application: Point your BlackBerry browser to http://blackberry.wordpress.org/install and follow the instructions. Most BlackBerrys will install apps, including this one, in the “Downloads” folder.
We will be pushing updates out on a fairly frequent basis, and the app should prompt you to download a new version. When you install the update, it will ask you to overwrite the current app. Doing so will just overwrite the app, but your settings and local drafts should be preserved.
If you find bugs: Review the How To Report a Bug documentation and submit tickets over on blackberry.trac.wordpress.org.
For developers out there wanting to get involved, you can browse the source code and check out a copy of the app via SVN: http://blackberry.svn.wordpress.org/.
We look forward to your feedback, and definitely want to hear from you if you want to participate in this great project.
If you want to leave a comment on this post post to the WordPress for BlackBerry Forums about any issues, please include if you are on WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress & which version, type of BlackBerry, and BlackBerry OS.

Awesome App. Only problem I’m having on my Bold is selecting categories… but other than that it ROCKS!
@mcangeli – you should be able to select categories by hitting “space” when in that field.
It works for one of the blogs I have loaded, but not the other…

Works great! I’ve been looking for a mobile client for a while, and this beats everything else I’ve tried.
Can’t wait for the future releases.
I’m running WP 2.8 on a self-hosted server. Trying to access and run the program on a BB Curve 8310.
The program seems to work great so far with wordpress.com sites but it seems to have stalled in loading my self-hosted blog.
I’m getting an error:
Loading blog. Try later…
I looked for XML-RPC enabling, but its not an option under the main Setup menu. I also don’t see the option under the options on the WordPress.com blogs.
Thanks for releasing this! Can’t wait to put it to use!
Found the XML-RPC enabling on my site itself. It’s been enabled.
Now my self-hosted blog simply shows an error triangle on the list of blogs and nothing shows under posts, pages or options when I click to show the blog. Hmmmm.

Just posting that this isn’t working correctly on my Blackberry 8820 through BES. Probably some type of security setting they have turned off, not sure, however I get a ‘Bad URL, Password or User Name’ when trying to connect to my self hosted wordpress blog. Obviously i retyped the username/password etc and logged in via the web to make sure everything still worked correctly otherwise.
When running the app, it does mention that the app wants to alter my security settings of which i accept and save (each time) which is why I think it may be some type of security setting.
Anyway, just an fyi…
Install is fine on BB8800 (OS 4.2.1.68)
But unable to connect to my self-hosted WP blog
Is this a known issue? Is my BB a tad too old?

I have been looking at getting a BlackBerry in the recent weeks, and this is a major contributor to whether or not I pick one up. Thank you for developing this, and I’ll definitely try it out if I do end up getting a BB.
For those of you that have problems with the “!” triangle, I was able to resolve quickly, by updating to the newest Word Press 2.8.3. It works perfectly!

I love it works great on my BB 8900

I have tried installing this app several times on my 8330 Curve. I’d like to be able to use this specifically for comment moderation and reply for my WordPress.com blog. I have tried restarting after each application, but still get the “WordPress startup Error” each time. When I click OK, it goes to the app after several more error messages. It won’t save my options because it says my “file system is full” which is not the case. Then, when I try to add my blog, after entering my URL, username and password, it tells me there were errors loading my blogs because “a blog by that name already exists” or some such wording. It will list each of my blogs (three total) and tell me the same thing. I have allowed all the connections. Is there something unique that WP.com users have to do to make this work? Am I missing something . . .
@tysdaddy — can you post to the forums so we can take a look?
You know what I would like if after u upload a picture than u write something the text was below the picture and not above it, one more thing is there a limit to addin cattorgerys because sometimes it just don’t add any?
Excellent site, keep up the good work
Yippee! Thank you guys so excited to start using this
I just wanted to give you some details of the errors that occur on the
Storm:
1. It will only work in Landscape view.
2. Scrolling is way different than normal.
3. It is nearly impossible to move from field to field when entering username and password for a new blog.
4. When installing a new blog, when you hit the line-break key in the username field, it actually gives you a line break instead of moving to the next field. d
That’s as far as I’ve gotten into it, so far, but it has potential. It is unusable, for the most part, on the storm because you can’t use landscape view. But, I’m looking forward to updates! Thanks WP!
@fuzzmartin — You need to run the app with Compatibility mode OFF. Go to option-> Advanced options-> Application -> WordPress to change
this setting.
I’m very naive and incredibly new to to blogging with wordpress and other apps but i think i chosen the right one (if only i could get it to work) but can’t add my blog. From what i can read i am still experiencing this ‘xmlrpc’ error message on my bold, which is very frustrating when i read others have managed to navigate the issue…what is the best most successful way to resolve this issue?
@sobecoze
are you using WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress?
can you post to the forums with some details so we can take a look — thanks.
Hi,
just installed wordpress for BB on my BB and it works like charm. I am running BB os >=4 and wordpress in my website is 2.8.x latest. Enabled XMP-RPC and logged in and no problems at all.
